Whew another scorcher day 32 degrees.. so much hot weather all across our great country this summer!!!
More history I didn't know about Moose Jaw. First off , where did that name come from?? A Cree name, meaning "a warm place by the river" Nice!
AND....Moose Jaw was a major gangster and rum runner hub during prohibition. Al Capone himself had an office and lucrative business here. For awhile Moose Jaw was known as " Little Chicago "
The Moose Jaw Tunnels, was a fun tourist stop. Interactive with great young actors and so informative. We really enjoyed it all.
Moose Jaw has other claims to fame too: Mac the Moose is here and once again holds the title as world's tallest Moose! There was a time that poor Mac had lost his title, by a mere 30 centimeters, to an east-central Norwegian town. But after some fund raising Mac was crowned with new antlers to regain his rack title by a whopping 10 inch extention!
Also....our famous Snowbird aerial flight crew is based right here in Moose Jaw!! Their first show was here in Moose Jaw in 1971. YES !!!
Hello, we are feeling closer to home now. Tomorrow we will be in Saskatchewan. Not too much to post for photos, as we are retracing some of our outbound steps. Tonight we are at a free Walmart parking lot. Lol so exciting, but it helps with the finances. Yesterday we were in Vermillion Bay and stopped for a rest on route to West Hawk Provincial Park. The totem pole and the moose, with nose road rash, are from Vermillion Bay. Flowers and old " woody" station wagon are from West Hawk. Take care all!!, hugs B & D
Stopped in Thunder Bay again on our return home. This was my favorite KOA campground and pool. Everything so nice and CLEAN!!! Great friendly staff too.
We drove to the harbor this time to see different sites. Rows of sailboats, art pieces, a duck warming in the sun, and in the distance.....the famous land mass known as " The Sleeping Giant."
Off on the horizon, head to the left, lying on his back, arms folded across his chest, long extended legs. I can see it, but Barrie says I have a good imagination, as he sees nothing! Lol.
At any rate, beautiful sunny day by the water. Tomorrow we drive to West side of Ontario, next day we camp in Manitoba ....home is getting closer 😀😃
Full morning of hikes, our second stop August 10th was to one of Canada's longest Suspension Bridges. This example is 600 feet across and 152 feet above the canyon floor.
There were two suspension bridges, the first was 300 feet across, then a short walk to the second one, 600 feet across. Just glorious views again! After the bridges, we walked down hundreds of stairs to the canyon floor and around the lake. Lovely hike and enjoyed munching on wild strawberries.
The pot pictured here was interesting as well. It was on a pinnacle about 8 feet out from the tallest suspension bridge. People try to toss coins into it from the bridge cable rail. How someone got it up there is anyone's guess. Fun!
Beautiful hike to the upper canyon cliffs, as I said before; views so expansive and hard to capture with smart phone. Loved it!!! And finally got Barrie to smile for one picture ! Lol
