Halifax, Nova Scotia July 29th

It rained most of the day, but we did have a clear break when down at the harbor.  We went to Pier 21, the records and museum for immigrants that landed in Canada by ship to Halifax.  Barrie found records of his grandfather from 1921.  They print out the records for you to take home so that was fabulous.   Unfortunately the records for my Dad's arrival in 1952 have not been released by the Canadian government yet.  Grrrr.  However,  the wonderful young lady helping us could see how crushed I was and she said look, there is a public site released from Germany that has records of people who boarded ships bound for Canada, I can look that up for you.....

And Bam, she found my Dad's name and the ship he sailed away on.  She printed that manifest and info about the ship for me.  I CRIED!  Going to frame that when I get home 😀  No pics of the records as they are tucked away safe, til we get home.

I do include pictures of my favorite DONAIR SHOP ( from my WestJet days) and our harbor stop on the HMCS SACKVILLE.   A world War II destroyer that was instrumental in helping win the war of the Atlantic!

Lunenburg Haunted Walking tour, July 28th

We stayed in Lunenburg til dusk thru dark of night, to take the Haunted Walking tour.....ooh it was so fun and a hot beautiful evening!  Our guide Liz, was a delight.  Lots of spooky ghost stories and tales of bad doings about town.  We even got to go into St. John's Anglican church, est. 1753.  There is a tiny window in the church  basement  where you can look into the crypt and see real headstones from the 1700's AND real live spiders,  glad there was glass between us!  So creepy at night.  Amazing architecture homes and an old spooky school built beside the cemetery.  Elementary school children played among the headstones at recess, crazy!

The Bluenose II, July 28th

She's on our dime!! Well the first one is, and she was built right here in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  After the original was wrecked and lost at sea in 1946,  the Bluenose II was built and still proudly sails to this day.  We were so lucky to see her in Port and walk on board, just amazing!

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia July 28th

Lunenburg,  home of the Bluenose II   AND  Balsam Fir Christmas tree capitol of the world.  Who knew??, so cool

Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia July 28th

Finally, the much photographed and painted,  the infamous  Peggy's Cove!

Huge tourist  attraction, thousands of people here but did manage three shots without hundreds of people. Lol.  An artist can do so much more to capture it's true beauty, but today I just have my trusty phone, tee hee

Point Prim Lighthouse, NS July 26th

Another short drive from Digby, the Point Prim Lighthouse.  Beautiful  views off the coast and the basalt polyagonal rock rings.

Outside Digby July 26th

Just outside the little gem of Digby,  was a Maud Lewis replica home.  Maud Lewis is a famous Canadian  folk artist that lived not far from Digby.  She was small and disfigured with crippling arthritis but maintained joy in her sole.  She had a very hard life but was an amazing woman.  If you haven't  read about her, give Google a look.  So inspiring!

Digby Nova Scotia !! July 26th

Finally world famous Digby Scallops!!!! Waa Hoo!!

New campsite Nova Scotia, July 25th

Today we moved to a campsite called Look Off Family Campground.

Well it's definitely not our favorite but it gets us closer to Digby.  The view across the road from this campsite is beautiful but that is it.

Cabot Trail continues , July 23

We stopped at the whale interpretive centre in Pleasant Bay.  The centre was not picture worthy but I just loved the whale tail statue at the waters edge and the bay from above 😀

Glass Studio on Cabot Trail, July 23

Flowers of glass outside and the glass buoys, gorgeous!!!
